The Redmond Police Department recently said goodbye to one of their favorite K9 officers, Chewbacca, affectionately known as Chewie. Just last month, Chewie was hot on the trail of a suspect, showcasing that energetic German Shepherd spirit that makes every police chase a little more exciting. Sadly, Chewie passed away on August 19, 2025, due to a sudden medical issue. Seriously, it’s tough to find the right words, but we all know he was one “pawsitively” good boy.
Chewie was more than just a partner to Officer Zach Perkins; he was practically family. The two of them tackled 112 patrol calls together and were known to charm a crowd at over 520 community events. Imagine that dynamic duo—Officer Perkins and Chewie—kicking up paws and turning criminal captures into community celebrations! It’s the kind of heartwarming partnership you might see in a feel-good movie, except this time it’s the real deal.
As the community mourns this loss, it’s a reminder of the loyalty and love that our four-legged friends bring to our lives. Chewie was a true hero, not just for his work on the job but also for the smiles he brought to everyone’s faces. Have you ever had a pet that made a huge impact on your life? Share your pet stories; I bet they’re just as heartwarming as Chewie’s legacy!
