Utility provider Arizona Public Service (APS) announced on Tuesday afternoon, April 21, that it may conduct a public safety power shutoff (PSPS) on Wednesday, April 22, in response to “extreme winds” and dry conditions.
The PSPS could begin as early as 9 a.m. Wednesday and is intended to help prevent electrical equipment from starting or contributing to a wildfire. Up to 5,800 APS customers in eastern Flagstaff and nearby communities — Doney Park, Timberline, Fernwood, Mormon Lake, Cosnino, Sunset Crater, Walnut Canyon, and Valle — may be impacted.
