QUEEN CREEK — In its third appearance in the state championship match in the past five years, No. 1 Flagstaff (17-0) finally got over the hump. The Eagles won their first AIA Division II girls beach volleyball state championship with a 3-1 victory over the No. 2 Gilbert Christian Knights (17-1) on Wednesday evening at Casteel High School.
In a match where the teams came in losing a combined five individual matches this season, Flagstaff handed Gilbert Christian its first team loss of the season and finished the year as the division’s lone unbeaten team.
