With nurse’s week just behind us, I felt compelled to write this. I was recently released from Flagstaff Medical Center. I then had to return to the ER after my discharge for another visit. What I witnessed in the ER is hard to quantify.
I remember the days where medical professionals wore uniforms or smocks. Now, maybe one in 50 are wearing smocks. Tee shirts, hoodies and tennis shoes are now the uniforms of choice. There is more ink on the arms, necks and faces of these professionals than you will find in the Declaration of Independence. The jewelry on the ears, noses and eyes make it hard to define what role they play. For the record, I have absolutely no problem with the clothing or personal choices for ink or jewelry.
