W.L. Gore & Associates recently received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a stent designed for the largest vein in the human body.
The GORE VIABAHN venous stent, also called FORTEGRA, was approved by the FDA in December, allowing Gore to begin the process of making it commercially available. This is the first stent developed for the inferior vena cava (IVC), which is the largest vein in the body, according to Gore global products specialist Gabe Donatell.
